2015 November Sweeps Wrapup

N2ASD Message As follows,

I am sorry it has taken me some time to post this seeing now that it is about two weeks after the November Sweepstakes for SSB and a month for CW respectively. I did not too bad for CW, netting 104 contacts across 36 sections. However, my life plans and work threw a wrench into the SSB sweeps and I was only able to work about 23 contacts for an hour or 2.... I feel a bit dissapointed in myself but I do have to do what I need to as work is more important than contesting. I am not sure if I am going to do  the ARRL10M contest this year as 10M is a band that is not my forte. I am more used to 15, 20, and 40M myself but if I get bored, I may give it a go.
I can not wait until this spring to show my new antennas as well as the construction of getting them up in the air! I did some research on the HF antenna, and it turns out that I do have a Cushcraft A-3S with a 40M Add on kit with some parts missing! Over the winter, me and my Elmer Phil (W3EBO), are going to work on restoring this to its immaculate condition, along with the 6M antenna I got and ensuring me that things are working well before I hoist the antennas on the tower this spring.
Other than that, I really don't have much to say but enjoy your holidays coming up. Until next time, this is N2ASD signing you clear.

Life, Stepping into the past and new equipment!

N2ASD message as follows,

Hello, sorry for the random opening, but I have forgot to post about field day and how it went, but now seeing how it is nearly November and that means it is time for the November SWEEPSTAKES! the CW edition this year is on November 7-8 and SSB (Phone) is on the 21-22.

I am happy to say that I am not officially a holder of a bachelor's degree! Even though i did a haphazard job on my senior project and report, I did manage to pass (barely) to earn my degree from SUNY Polytechnic!

This Sunday, I had the honor of stepping into the station of K3KYR, and it felt like a time capsule seeing very era specific radio pieces. A lot of classic tube radios were on display at his location and it was quite an honor to be able to see all of these radios and each radio room set at different time pieces, with my favorite being this one below from the mid 1950s.... I only wish I was alive around the to see the glow of the tubes, the tuning of these classic radios and the smell of warm dust.

As for new equipment, I am proud to see that I am now an owner of an HF Beam! I did pick up a 3 element tribander as well as a 5- element beam for 6m, which I may be planning on retrofitting to 7 elements so I have some ummph for the magic band. I also got some other equipment which would make good use to my station!

The first thing I got was a straight key so I can finally learn the code! I need to pick up a continuity tester in order to use it as a code oscillator so I can learn the sounds and feels of pounding the brass. The second picture is a CDE Tail-Twister II rotor, which is going to come in handy with my beam antennas!!! The last thing may look like a paint can, but it is a dummy load used to test your signals to verify output power to your radios to ensure everything is in order before you sell it! I will be ready for the November sweepstakes, but I wont be breaking in my new key until later as I need to learn the code and be ready to be a good fist with it, as well as having an ear for the code! Until then, this is N2ASD signing you clear and have a good time out on the bands!

Schools over

Well, the post of this explains it all... I am done with college at SUNY Polytechnic!!! With the being done, aside of my senior project which I will have done this summer, I will have my diploma sometime in August. Speaking of which I am back and I am glad to be here again, to talk about more of my nerdiness! I am itching to get back on the air after being absent after the 10M contest, which I got a decent foothold in on my own. Next week I will be posting about 2015 Field Day and my plans for it, so this is a post to say, "Hey I am glad to be back!" ^^

73 to everyone and catch you again

This is N2ASD, clear.
